..well the 7 year old boy is into video games, guns, the army and singing (school choir). And the 10 year old girl is into horses, and she might be into one direction but I think she may have all those things covered.

please help, I've never bought gifts for these two this cheap before, but all I can manage this year. So originality will hopefully cover my lack of finances.

A few small thoughtful presents, and don't let them watch the adverts to see what they could have got.......

HobbyCraft.

I bought loads of creative presents for my nephew in there and most were under a fiver. Plaster cast car with paints. Air fix beginner set (paint included). You're bound to find something a 10 yo girl, you hose small science kits look fun.

Pound shops are actually pretty good nowadays too. Books, CDs, DVDs, toys, sweets. Headtorches.

Could get a right bag of stuff for a tenner.

Without being patronising some things are free too. Perhaps your daughter is ready for her first hand-me-down piece of jewellery, or your son a watch.

I am a huge fan of TK Maxx.

A lot of people on here are familiar with their outdoor clothing bargains, but they also have a superb selection of toys, especially at this time of year.

It can be pot luck, but make sure you check out the clearance section as well.

How about crafty bits or stationary. Kids love glittery pens and stuff like that. I picked up quite a few bits for my nieces and nephews from the supermarket kids craft section.

My bargain xmas gift for kids this year has been MyMonopoly from Sainsburys. I paid a tenner for it but they're down to 6 quid something now (from £20). You get a load of stickers and things you can draw or print on from an inkjet and can make up your own game.

My lad likes monopoly and was asking for Simpsons or Star Wars monopoly but now he's seen this in the shop he's already designed The Big Bang Theory (TV show) Monopoly. That was a few weeks ago and he's nearly forgotten about it now, so he'll be made up on xmas day.

If they're into minecraft, I got a box of cardboard models a few weeks ago, cost a tenner but makes 30 minecraft bits that you need a big box to store it all in. Good value. like this but different items in it:

Absolute bargain I got off Ebay, so too late now, was an organic Chemistry modelling set, those little balls and bonds to build molecules, £8 from some chinese seller (there's loads of ads but it's all the same seller). Same thing is £30 most places.
