How do I look after the leather without them becoming slippy so I cant grip my tools?

Try and keep the blood off them.

And make sure the garotte has large handles.

Lincoln Leather Balsam, softens and waterproofs and won't make them slippy once it's absorbed. You can buy it from saddlery shops or online.

Or save yourself a lot of money and use Waxoyle, which is more or less the same thing...

Snoseal works well, although the leather is a bit 'sticky' when first treated which makes rope handling a little slower for the first wee while. No idea how much it costs as I've never paid for it.

Definitely won't make your tools slippery.

I've just used Nikwax - the same stuff I have for boots. Seems to work rather well on my Marmot ones.

More camp than you did before leather gloves.

Snoseal and then seam grip around the stitching and areas where the rope runs when belaying and abseiling.
