Having got my hair back after chemo I've decided to keep it shorter than before. I think at the moment it's longer than a grade 4. What's the longest grade on clippers?
In reply to mypyrex:

I think mine go to grade 6 or 7. Not sure as I always use 3 or 4.

Think it goes up to 7 or 8.

In reply to mypyrex: I alway use 4 or 5. If I go longer my apparently fine, soft locks do not cut very well and it looks a bit of a mess

It sometimes varies a bit between brands of clippers, but Wahl (what most barbers use) number the grades of the detachable combs in 1/8" increments.

So a grade 1 is 1/8", 2 is 1/4", 3 is 3/8" and so on.
Longer ones do exist, but the longest that's much used is a grade 8, which cuts a length of 1 inch.

Grades 5 and 6 are exceptions to the rule. They can be straight 5/8" and 3/4" lengths but in most sets they're special tapered combs, one shorter to the left the other to the right (but I can't remember which is which).

can't go wrong with a 3 and a 2 (3 top and 2 sides) keeps it neat for my bi-anual haircut
In reply to mypyrex:

I'm usually HVS 2b (half-yearly very short, 2 back n sides) in summer and IV 4 for winter when it keeps my bonce warm.
