An open invitation to winter climbers and walkers to a celebration of the Skye mountain environment.
Based at the Old Inn bunkhouse in Carbost. Come & meet other climbers, partner up and exchange notes. Beds still available throughout the period but central weekend now limited numbers. For details see Skye Winter Festival facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/skyewinterfestival?ref=hl

Is anybody heading up for this ? ,am on holiday from the 23rd and I am keen on going to this ,concerned if there will be a group or people to hook up with. Would be travelling from Newcastle and able to offer a lift.

Hi David, If no joy finding someone here you're welcome to come singly. Folk now booked right through and largely looking to walk/Ridge as a group or climbers looking for partners when they arrive. Only a couple of pre-established pairs. Meeting new people & getting out in the snowy Cuillin is more than half of what its about. Mike

Very disappointed to be heading south by the start of the festival. What are your thoughts for the end of this week, Mike? I'm arriving Thursday night in the NW for climbing in the grades III to V and wary of the amount of snow due to be dumped on high winds. Had planned to start in Fort William and finish in Skye middle of next week, now wondering if Skye is more likely to come into condition by the weekend. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi J
There's ice + rime up high & plenty mixed to go for when wind drops. Certainly no major avalanche danger here as it stands with most snow ending up in Applecross . My only mild worry on that front would be where old snow is extensive. This is virtually nowhere; top of GSS, An Dorus, Great Gully? but not much else. M

Mike, that's really helpful thanks. I fear the Ben might be a total swim by the weekend. Hope to bump into you on the hill over the next week, though hopefully not from above.
In reply to Mike Lates:

Looks like your dates may work out well Mike. Coldest week of the winter on its way next week with a lot less wind. Will give you a wave from Torridon!
