When did this come about? I can see the logic combining Stanage End and High Neb but hadn't heard it being talked about or anything.

I see.
Well that seems entirely daft. I thought the idea was to get more accurate, not less so, with an updated guidebook.
Rockfax's book; Rockfax's rules I guess.

High Neb is still called High Neb and End Slab is still End Slab - it just is an overarching title for everything left of the Causeway - dividing the the crag into three similar sized chunks.

Oddly I have called it Stanage North for years,

So, we now have Stanage North at one end and Apparent North at the other.

I like it.

We are going to change the name to Apparent South so folks don't get hopelessly lost.

For the purposes of the new guidebook and the App we need things to be in sync and having four areas for Stanage was too many. In this case it was a logical combination of two areas that don't really have a very defined boundary. Was Crow Chin in High Neb section or Stanage End? And Marble Wall - almost always approached from Dennis Knoll parking and it is much closer to High Neb than Stanage End, yet it was in that Stanage End section.

The name isn't set in stone yet. If anyone can think up of a better name for the bit of Stanage from the Causeway to Stanage End then please suggest it.
