Is too hot to climb at Presles in August?

In reply to mark hounslea:

Too hot in the shade or in the sun?

In reply to mark hounslea:

It is pretty hot and is somewhere I usually climb in March or April... The walls are pretty sunny in general.

It can be too hot in August, but isn't always.

On hot days there are places nearby - Lans En Vercours for instance - that will have sectors in the shade, at most times of the day.

I've climbed there in July and August, Mark, en route to the Alps. Was pretty hot. Predominantly south facing but some sectors get shade at different times of the day. Wouldn't want to be climbing there in full sun at that time of year. Ask Pete Chadwick, think he's been there in summer.

It'll be quite warm. However secteur Fhara Kiri faces SE and should be shady from about mid afternoon (it is in winter!) and the days are long. Probably the same goes for the Paroi Rouge. If there's a bit of breeze, that'll help too. I have climbed there in the summer but as Jack says it's really more suited to the other three seasons. In fact, often January is perfect!
