Horrible. One's thoughts go to the family and friends - and the survivor.

Poor bloke. And poor family.

There's a lot of deep pockets of wind slab about at the minute on all sorts of aspects. I was surprised at the depth blown in across the Stob Coire nan Lochain path, as low as 500m. Some lads were digging snow shelters and they had lumps breaking off from layers of graupel. There's a lot going on out there.....

Some very scary layering of snow right now. Just back from a weekend on the Ben and 4 of our guys were caught in an avalanche near Ledge Route/The Curtain. An avalanche was also triggered during our retreat from Tower Ridge on Saturday evening.

In reply to Chris Ellyatt:
On Sunday the eastern aspects of hills such as the fannachs were frequently displaying crown walls from avalanches that probably occured Saturday or Saturday night. One of these crown walls appeared to be over a km long and another was a full depth avalanche showing bear earth in the bed of the avalanche.
I found one very dangerous sliding plane within the wind slab about 30cm down on south eastern aspect at 600m On sunday
