The Cape Peninisular has been devastated over the last few days by bush fires in temperatures of 42 degrees and strong winds. I understand huge areas to the south of Table Mountain have been burned and the Cape Argus cycle race due to take place this weekend has just been substantially shortened for safety reasons, in particular Chapman's Peak is closed due to unstable, heat shattered rocks above the road.
Does anyone know how badly burnt the northern slopes of Table Mountain are?
In reply to Trangia: just came back from there this morning - didn't go round to the north but there seemed to be a lot of panic about leaving homes etc. it were bloody hot yesterday.
