Nepal Extreme Blisters! New Boots?

I've had a pair of Nepal extreme boots for a couple of years now, and used them for about 2 weeks worth of days in the lakes and never had much problems other than a bit of heel rub now and again. When I bought them I tried on a size up and a size down to make sure they were correct. I was getting a bit of heel lift and was advised to buy super feet blue and they felt a lot better in the volume reduction.

A couple of weeks ago they gave me a big blister on the arch of one foot and this past week I was on a climbing course in Scotland and on the first day they gave me horrendous blisters in the arch of both feet, and a slight one on the out side. Two days later I suddenly got bad blisters in the heel. Other people on the course had brand new boots not walked in and had no problem.

Is it possible that they are just wrong for my feet and it is time to change? If any one could advise that would be great as I just want to be sure before I commit to to the cost of new boots.

Thanks

What did they feel like when you got the blisters? The arch seems a really odd place to get one

They felt normal then started to feel like it was blistering, I forgot to mention it was the inside of the arch and they developed on descent. Starts with the right then the left.

I've never had blister there before. I did wonder if it could be the Superfeet? I supposedly have a high arch foot but the blues I believe are more of a volume reducer.

If you take the superfeet insoles out can you see marks where the ridges on the underside of the insoles meet the boot? My guess is that the superfeet have started cutting into the boot base at the heel and possibly the ball (because the ridges in the hard plastic base of the the superfeet are quite thin and sharp) leaving the arch raised.

I thought the blue insoles were a low volume version of the other insoles making them an odd choice for use as a volume reducer. As for a simple cheap volume reducer I just use the brasher ones. They're only about a fiver and work perfectly well.

Blister on the arch usually implies foot rub from either the foot slipping forward and backward or a high arch compressing and decompressing (which pushes the ball back and forth). Both are usually remedied by decent arch support, volume reduction etc which you obviously have tried to remedy so it's odd that you're still experiencing issues. Perhaps more of the same?

What's your normal sock combination? It's a secondary fix but perhaps some help can be found here too?

I usually wear one pair of thick socks and has worked well.

I think I need to investigate the shape of my feet and and find the correct arch support by the sound of it.

Thanks for your help.

Don't worry, it is probably that the superfeet are just not right for your feet/boot combo. I bought some new boots(B3), and they recommended the superfeet green, and in the shop they felt great(better than without), and general wandering around they were fine, but on the hill they crippled me, in just the same place, thankfully no blister, just extremely painful to walk, especially downhill. Gave them a sand down, no luck, returned them for a full refund on the 60 day comfort guarantee.

Have since had numerous days out, couple of weeks climbing in scotland, many weekends in wales/lakes, and the boots have been brilliant, so the superfeet greens were clearly just too much.

Not really that strange, especially if the OP is wearing superfeet and if they have flat feet, this causes the rubbing on the arch. I have exactly the same issue with superfeet so I stopped using them which allieviated the issue but then I tried the black superfeet which are an excellent compromise.

I have properly buggered feet. so many issues. But you may have flat feet i used to get blisters on my arches form lifting my feet and then when you plant it your foot moves more than normal when you have flat feet. I now have orthotics and wear nepal extremes all year round as i need the support provided form the stiffness, never had a blister. try some orthotics with raised arches or go see a podiatrist.

Seems that the super feet are the problem here. I have been told I have high arch feet but I was thinking the best thing to do rather than try every insole on the market would be to see a specialist and get it right first time (or in this case second time).

Thanks all
