Eastern Peak from South west - best route?

I have, since living in the southwest, always approached the eastern gritstone edges of The Peak District via M5 - M6 - Stoke - Leek - Buxton - Bakewell - Hathersage route.

Just out of interest, for anyone who passes from west to east regularly, am I doing it all wrong, is there a quicker way (taking rush hours into account)? Should I be heading north east from Birmingham for example?

Cheers,
Tom

M5, junction 4a for the M42, Ashby de la Zouch, A42, M1 near Castle Donington, come off the M1 at the Chesterfield turn, junction 29, then either north to the Sheffield ring road or west towards Gardoms, Curbar etc. Especially with the state of the M6 around Birmingham at the moment.

I drive from down near Worcester to Sheffield reasonably often these days and that's definitely the the way to get to Sheffield, but coming through the Peak is much prettier! Why not just go to the Roaches instead?!

Good stuff, thanks. I love The Roaches, but sometimes you just gotta head east!
