Pyrenees in early May - snowshoes?

Heading to the Pyrenees in May to hike the Chemin de la Liberte and possibly do a couple of easy peaks. Is it worth taking my snowshoes? I'll have to carry them a lot of the time, on top of camping gear, so the weight is not insignificant. The top of the pass is at 2500 metres.

I'm thinking the snow should be fairly firm spring snow by then, but am wondering if someone has experience they could share?

I doubt snowshoes will be essential, certainly unless you have a freak late-spring dump just before or while you are there. At that time of year though crampons would be a must, as the route covers quite a lot of steep ground and the snow banks often persist into mid or sometimes even late summer.

Excellent, thanks John, that's what I was thinking. Axe and crampons definitely, but the snowshoes probably not worth it.
