Last night we had some pretty wild weather here and it ripped off a whole length of bargeboard from the side of the house. The thing is that it appears the wood under is rotten too suggesting that the barge board had been loose for some time.
I'm mulling over whether to claim on house insurance - the main question is will they regard it as wear and tear or storm damage given that it's pretty clear it's been on the way our for some time?

In reply to pasbury:

There are no downsides to trying to claim? But they'll probably "dodge" it as a long-standing issue.

In reply to pasbury: When the storm blew water under our flashing to wet a bed room wall the insurance came inspected and said the flashing was too narrow so no claim! The flashing been there at least 50 years! so when done ok. Now not good enough, so we had to replace and pay.
