I have a fairly lightweight tripod that has been known to get blown over on occasion, so I'm thinking of attaching some loops of accessory cord to the feet and making loops that I can attach to the ground with tent pegs.

Does anyone do this? Is there a better approach short of buying another tripod?

if you are not remotely shooting from distance then get a sling, tie it round the hook at the base of the center column and put a knot in it just above ground level then stand on the knot that will force the 3 legs downwards and give stability. That way if you have to change positions you don't need to keep repositioning the pegs

I probably wouldn't be next to it. The use I have in mind is setting up a tripod to shoot time lapse, then doing something else for a couple of hours.

Get a string bag, fill it with rocks and hang that from the centre column.

this is the way pros do it, just ensure that the legs are locked properly

It's better still to have the weighted bag on the floor and have the attachment cord tensioned.

Thanks all. I'll try the bag of rocks idea.

Factorxxx makes a good point - you won't want the bag swinging in the wind.

OK. If I come back here with a 24 hour timelapse of Stetind in June then it worked. If I am mourning my smashed camera then it didn't
