I see that Elliot Brown, a fairly recent British watch brand, have released for pre-order the Special Edition MR watch, produced in conjunction with Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW) - http://www.elliotbrownwatches.com/product/canford-202-012/.

Based on their standard Canford watch and retailing at £360 they say that they will give £36 to MREW for every watch sold which is very welcome indeed.

My opinion: it's a very nice looking watch although the price is at the high end for a quartz watch. However, Ian Elliot and Alex Brown, who founded and built the Animal watch brand, seem to have put a great deal of thought, care and detail into producing a fairly bomb-proof watch that looks very clean and smart; there's a good review of the watch showing some of the 'hidden' detail at Page & Cooper's YouTube site - youtube.com/watch?v=IowxLz_Tn2s& and another one by WornandWound in the US at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5wX2a2fJ_Q.

I suspect if you get hung up on the fact that it's a quartz movement and not mechanical, then maybe you're not likely to be convinced to buy. If, however, you are swayed by the quality and detail of the watch as a whole, the ethic of the company, the watch's good looks and the fact that you'd be contributing to MR with your purchase, then maybe you'll be convinced to part with your money. After all, the value of any item is that which is perceived by the owner. I would suggest that there is room in every collection for a quartz watch, provided it's the right one.

Will I be buying one? The jury is still out, but it is a lovely shiny fing!!!
