Is there a direct equivalent of an alpine grade 1 scramble? Obviously the overall seriousness of the route will be higher due to the mountain being higher and the day being longer, but in terms of technical difficulty?

Probably " W2" (walk 2), possibly F.

I think there'd probably be too many variables, both objective and subjective, to make a really meaningful comparison, possibly the most important of which would be how good the rock is. Having said which, I think MG is probably correct.

also any walk in the alps which crosses some scrambling type terrain tends to have ropes/ladders/handrail/steps/pseudo via ferrata all over it so its a completely different ball game. you ether need to go harder than a grade 1 scramble or stick to a scienic walk (or happily climb the assorted metalgury).
