Spending a week in Ballater with the family. Apart from the likes of the magnificent Lochnagars, Garbh Coire etc, are there any more accessible crags for "half day" type sessions ? Looking for easy grades also. Thanks

Pass of Ballater - great granite crag, generally single pitch, accessible and a good spread of grades. http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=79

The pass of Ballater is good

Climbed there a few years back. A proper sun trap too !

Well the obvious one is Pass of Ballater (http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=79) - easy walk from Ballater too. Not sure what you mean by easy climbing but the pass would probably by my first choice, not much below VS, but enough for a 1/2 day. Sunny aspect, easy access and the rock is great. Beware the wood ants though!

Theres sport at Cambus of May (http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=83) but the best climbing is not in the lower grades, plus stuff on the back wall (the easier grades) tends to be affected by seepage and be dirty / chossy as a result (unless it's become more popular of late be cleaned up!)

Never been to Pannach crag so won't comment on that one.
In reply to Mike Conlon:

Burn o'vat is recently cleaned if you like small crags. Topo on shelterstone.co.uk. 15 minutes drive from Ballater.

The Pass of Ballater is terrific. If you need a change and don't mind a hour plus driving, the Aberdeen sea cliffs are available too.

The Vat is worth a gander even if your not climbing. A real oddity!
