I hired on the French side once. Never again. The border between the two countries at the airport, which is just a door, was locked and delayed us for several hours. Getting through Geneva, especially on the return is a faff and you have to avoid going on the Swiss motorways otherwise you get penalised. Swiss side is more expensive but does include the motorway carnet and gets you to the alps much quicker.
