I am trying to book the Gouter hut for September this year and am a little confused. I am 24 years old; how would I get the most reasonable rate? Members of FFCAM get a huge discount at £18.75 if under 25.

Is the best thing to join the Austrian Alpine Club (with a view to stay in other huts) - if so how much is the Gouter hut? Would it be the same rate as the FFCAM or would it be £55.

If anyone could clear this up for me I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,

James.

AAC usually gives 50% discount on the accommodation but it does include insurance cover just not the travel element. you will be very lucky to get in. Most people I know who have stayed in it have only managed it because of a cancellation. Not sure if things will be any better with the new hut but there is no way I would have stayed in the old one, it was grim. I bivvied just beyond it.

You should get the same discount. Alternatively, you could join CAF.

Reciprocal rights (AAC, AC, etc.) should only give you the first stage of discount i.e. 55. You'd need to join the CAF to get the 18.75. This is general across all CAF huts.
