Does what it says on the tin

What knot would you recommend to me and why?

In reply to The Lemming:

Tree knots, because they look really good in polished wood.
 Sharp 16 Jun 2015
In reply to The Lemming:

Double bow, most important knot you can learn as a climber unless you like having your shoes come undone.

Guide knot, for being able to centralise anchors to belay from with a skinny sling yet still undo the knot afterwards with gloves on or without having to use your teeth!

Zeppelin Bend

Super strong and super secure. Originally used to secure Zeppelins at ports.

That is where I know it from but I thought it looked good in edible form too.

Sadly there is no actual evidence of this

Since people seem to be posting serious knots now, the Alpine Butterfly. Useful for so many things, and usually easy to untie to! Examples (off the top of my head): tying the end of a sling in a sling belay, making a loop in anchor ropes to hang a guide plate from (tie in with the rope AND guide mode!), making a large loop to make a Y to clove hitch to a second belay stake/second piece of gear when building an abseil anchor, joining abseil ropes together when running on two strands and retrieval is not required, clipping someone in the middle of a rope, isolating a 'bad' section of rope, the list goes on...

In reply to The Lemming:
This would be easier via Skype however,

You basically clip your gear, equalise, tie a figure eight but instead of passing the end of the sling through the end loop of the knot (which effectively locks the knot tight) you pass a bite of the remaining end through and leave the rest as it is. Now attach your krab to the bite of sling poking through and the end of the sling.

So effectively your krab is centralised but is also holding the knot togeather, so as soon as you remove it, the nearly complete figure eight can come apart easily and quickly. Ideal for moving quick on big routes.

Lol

However, jokes and puns aside, I am enjoying the grown ups who reply with actual knots to discuss.

And as Yoda says, "do or do not. There is no twine"

I'd recommend the Palomar knot - such a simple, yet strong knot, and the best one to use to tie things like hooks and swivels to the end of your fishing line.

Turks Head* looks good on a bell rope. Stops your hand slipping off the end when you give it a good pull.

* Please note: A turks head is not for keeping the ears apart!

Ben, not needed.........

http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/standardknot.htm

I used to always double bow my laces till I read this. It seems depending on how you tie them, you end up with a sort of Granny knot or Reef knot. Granny knot? Will always come undone, double tie it. Reef? Never touch it again, no need to double!

I have used this on my climbing shoes, running shoes, work shoes etc. and it has completely worked.
