They're both on sale at the outdoor shop at the moment for 55/60 respectively. Seems like a really good chance to pick up a sack for british trad climbing, alpine climbing and with an eye to winter climbing next winter.

Anyone have the foggiest what the difference is? Which to go for? Is this even a decent deal? (I'm hankering after a torque 40 but y'know)

I have the larger version of the mountain attack. What sold it for me was side and bottom entry, it means I can strategically pack my bag and access things without having to empty it each time. Alpine attack might be lighter, and has removable waist belt for climbing with it on.

Have you looked at this website? It says all the differences, with Mountain Attack being heavier by 260g.

Ho hum. I guess I was hoping for wisdom rather than knowledge!

Not massive differences but basically the Alpine is about 250g lighter and offers one big storage compartment with a single top opening. The Mountain is heavier on account of side access and the extra convenience that brings and a burlier hip belt sporting gear loops. In the bigger size 45:55 the Mountain also offers a split main compartment and an extra side pocket.

So it's convenience vs weight. Where do your priorities lie?
