Anyone know how long a rope a rope is needed to lower off the top of Raven Tor? The longest routes are described as 40m but since they zig zag about a fair bit I'm wondering if you can make it back down with a 70m rope.

Also are there any other sport crags in the UK that require an 80m rather 70m rope?

thanks

I'd have thought you, of all people, would know that!

I am not well informed, and I don't have my guide book to hand, but on UKC the up routes don't exceed 30m, which would be about right to my memory so I should have thought so, you must get a good 4m stretch on a 70m rope too, surely.

Someone else will have a better idea soon hopefully.

I've lowered off the last bolt on Full Prow on a 70m, with the caveat that the first runner i clipped on that rope was the Revelations belay. Can't remember how much spare i had.

An 80m will get you down with spare from the Crucifixion belay.

A very long time ago I had to abseil from the top to recover some gear. This was in the days when Mecca was still an aid route. I would only have had a 50m rope and I got down to the ground OK.
