Sandy Allan: In Some Lost Place book launch
Wednesday 15th July
Outside Café, Hathersage
In 2012 six climbers set out to attempt the first ascent of one of the great unclimbed lines of the Himalaya – the giant Mazeno Ridge on Nanga Parbat. At 10kms in length, the Mazeno is the longest route to the summit of an 8,000-metre peak. Ten expeditions had already tried and failed.
After 11 days two of the team, Sandy Allan & Rick Allen, both in their late fifties, reached the summit. They had run out of food & water and heavy snow conditions meant they would need another 3 days to descend.
Piolet d'Or winner Sandy Allan will be joining us at the Outside Café to launch his account of an incredible feat of endurance with an illustrated talk.
