What's the best way to repair car windscreen rubber trim? It's just come out so will glue do or is it a job for auto glass? Thanks

Bit of soapy water for lubrication and push it back in. Shouldn't need any glue.

From a layperson perspective, it will depend on what by trim you really mean. Modern windscreens are bonded and that is part of the structural integrity of the vehicle. If part of that "trim" then I would be going to a professional. If just "extra" non structural trim to say to channel or divert water, wiper stops, etc, then appropriate DIY maybe possible.

I remember the last time I had a windscreen changed, after the bonding part was done, Autoglass had to add some trim rubber back. Don't think they glued, but just pushed it back into the guide channel.

It looks like it's just the trim but doesn't seem to want to stay in!

First you need to work out the reason for the popping out. For example, could it be that the trim has just shrunk in length thus under tension all the time? If it's one of those that goes all the way round, since these are joined to be continuous, if they shrink you will never keep them in within cutting and adding a bit (or replacing of course).

It just goes along the top edge, not all way round

First then as its just trim (in your view) I would take it off and clean it well and also clean the channel out. It may have lost its natural grip or there is rust/slime etc reducing its grip. If it's actually shrunk (width) you will need to replace or consider an automotive glue (take specialist advice first).

My limited experience with rubber trim is its been dirt etc or its shrunk and just will not grip properly.

Ok will try all that, thanks for the advice!

If it's the type I'm thinking of there's a nearly round section that's pushed into a rubbery channel. If it's getting a bit old it may pop out due to shrinkage, or it may be that something nasty is growing in the channel and pushing the bead out. I'd fully remove the bead, have a good clean of the channel. Then soap up the bead and push it back in (starting from the middle, so any length elongation is even).
