There is probably a really easy answer to this but it's early and I'm only on my first cup of tea

Talc is often used as a drying agent, especially on babies (Accidentally covered my little girl last night after her bath) so why isn't this used in place of chalk. Would work out cheaper than a ball of chalk, I'm sure

go and put some on your hands, does it work? The answer should become quite clear

Talc is an excellent dry lubricant, especially for sticky new rubber as any diver or bike mechanic will attest.

Well, you've got some talc so give it a try and report back.

Why would I ask if I could just nip out a try it?

Cheers ukc, helpful as always

May dry your hands but slippery as a slippy thing so not something I would use.

Yeh, I guess it's slipperier than chalk would be.

It's a lubricant so it will be a lot slippier.

I wasn't being flippant, just put it on your hands, the feel of it should be enough - it's like making your hands into wet flippers. Worth filling up your mates chalk bag at the wall but good for nowt else climbing wise.
