Morning,

Anyone on here have a custom frame bag from Alpkit ?

Sort of tempted by one and just wanted to know what people thought of them.

Have you checked out http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk ?

I've some Alpkit stuff but not the frame bag so can't help you further (I've a Wildcat partial frame bag, the Ocelot)

One problem I have found with the Ocelot is that I can't fit a water bottle cage to the frame with it in place, I might have been better going for a custom frame bag though there was a substantial delay in getting one. This meant that on a recent long ride I needed to take a Camelbak which sorts of defeats the object of having all the bike fitted bags.

Not got an Alpkit one : but made one myself - they are really handy - have a good centre of gravity - I made mine so that i can fit my camel back bladder in the top compartment.

you can also use them to 'tack' into the wind (which isn;t always usefull).

I just got a £10 one from Halfords. Coupled with an alpkit drybag strapped to the back of the saddle it makes a great setup for weekend bike-hosteling trips. Snacks, tools etc in the frame bag, spare clothes etc in the drybag

Yeah I've just brought myself one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Big-Frame-Bicycle-Cycle-Bike/dp/B00JVWQ5X4/ref=pd_c...

at 3 1/3 litre is looks promising for 8.99
I've also got plenty of airlock drybags to strap to the handle bars too.

Remember to get some helicopter tape to protect your frame! It's surprising how much damage fabric and dirt rubbing against the frame can do.

Yes, had it for a couple of years now, its jolly good. I'm literally just back from a two day bikepacking trip, a sort of loop from Chesterfield to Sheffield via Glossop: High Peak Trail - Pennine Bridleway - Trans-Pennine Trail. https://instagram.com/p/5JmgB0rvKZ/ The frame bag was great, the fuel pod was great, the alpkit drybag strapped to my bars was great BUT I have just spent 65 quid on the Koala seat pack from them and am not impressed with that at all. I had unfortunately already had to return it to Alpkit when it first arrived as they had sewn on two different halves of supposedly one buckle, so that it wouldn't stay done up. Annoying, but no biggy and Alpkit were great at swapping it for me very quickly, but on this ride I noticed yesterday that after just 50 kms the stiffner sheet they have in the Koala packs had at a corner rubbed a hole through the fabric. It's not big but I can see more wear points now that also look like the fabric will break. Really disappointing to happen on the first use!

But, to your original question, the framebags are great. You will have to move your bottle cages to your forks which requires some jiggery-pokery but its not a big problem.
