I'm hoping there are some foam experts on here. I bought foam for a camp bed a while ago and remember it was called things like grade A+ upholstery foam, extra dense blah blah blah. It's 4" thick and comfy enough but you do sink through to the floor if you're on your side.

My girlfriends making a sofa and we're looking for some foam to go underneath the cushions and struggling to work out what foam is actually super dense and what just calls itself that. I remember we used to have a 2 foot square cube of foam at work, if you sat on it you went in like 2 inches and it held it's shape. Does anyone know where we can find some really dense foam?

If you're in the Midlands, you could try Jordans in Leamington Spa.

They also sell Fireworks - now there's a good combination!!!

If you are in the Leeds area one of my customers called Transfoam will sort you out. They mainly supply trade but they have a public counter and samples.

cheers for everyones suggestions, still don't seem to be able to find any standardised method of measuring foam density so maybe memory foam is the way to go. Everyone whose had it seems to like it.

If you want something thats as comfy in the morning as it was last night and that lasts and lasts then it has to be Bulltex. Expensive but worth it.

Memory foam on it's own is pretty soft... I got a custom made mattress for my van, 3" of dense foam topped with 1" memory and it's super comfortable but still very supportive.
