Ejector 4a at Harrisons.

A deceptive little crack that can do what it says on the can to overconfident unsuspecting soloists right at the top.

I always like the obscurely descriptive ones, eg references to Agag to indicate delicate moves. Or Kipling Groove.

Also the more baldly straightforward Phallic Crack.

Ah, you mean the <less</> descriptive route names then?

Dunno, I'd say that they're extremely descriptive once you get the reference / joke / whatever. And they're interesting to list, because they're a bit less obvious than all the things like "The Dangler" or "The Grazer" or whatever.

On a related note, I've always assumed that Bachelor's Buttress was so called because it would have been considered unjustifiable for a married man to risk leaving his wife a widow by attempting it. Is this right?

If I ever get a chance to name a new route, it'll be in French, on a similar theme: Couler un bronze.

Only because I've been sh**ting myself on so many climbs these days.

Sounds like a ride at Thorpe Park!

According to the description it sounds like some form of exagerated body language...

"24m. Boulder up into the hanging groove then mince rightwards awkwardly (especially if you're long-legged) to pass the nose and climb the excellent gradually-widening cracks above."

I've always thought CC was a misnomer. Said to be because it goes from left to right. But take the parallel case - a Muslim convert is surely one converted TO that religion and not FROM it?

Someone who has converted FROM that religion tends to be either in hiding or dead...

Interestingly, according to Frank Cannings, this isn't the reason for the name. When he and Henry Barber topped out, they found themselves in a meadow-like field of flowers, and both had the feeling they'd been there before. (Frank's account at the recent Cornish BMC festival.)
