Commercial use of photos.

Someone just asked me if one of their sponsors could use a photograph I took of them. I've never had such a request before, what's the legal implications of saying "yes, fire away and use it."?

I'm happy to help this person get exposure so not worried about money (I don't imagine a single photo is going to make me rich) so long as I don't lose the rights to my own work.

You will retain the rights, but make this explicit if needs be.

It's worth stipulating usage to them, ie whether you're allowing them to use it as a one off only, or in perpetuity, Europe wide/Worldwide etc, in print/web use, or both. Ask for a byline if you want one, they may not credit you otherwise.

It's still your photo at the end of the day unless you say otherwise.
