Hello,

Climbing GNR last night I noticed a couple of chips in the wall for foot holds, they looked newish (last 5 years) I cant remember them being there last time i did it in 2011, have they always been there and if not have they made it easier??

I did GNR several years ago and you could definitely bridge the whole of the crux corner on small footholds then, is this where you mean?

I climbed the route earlier this year and didn't notice any evidence of recent chipping

Might get a few chips for suggesting E1.

In reply to Kevster:

its easier not harder..... definately not E1, maybe E0 at a push...

TPS however...
In reply to robal:

It's not even E0. It's quite hard for the grade, but still HVS 5a (exactly as voted for by UKCers)

Yep, top HVS 5a Impressive line and a bit intimidating to look at. [Bit like Surplum at E1: easy to run away from, but ok once you get to grips!]

In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

Agreed. Gear at eye level or above for much of the way and no move harder than 5a

I was joking when I suggested E0..... sorry I suppose sarcasm doesn't come through when typing!

I do think it was easier than most HVS's I've done, for example I think that the needle at riverlin, the right unconcorable and also Valkyrie are tougher.....

lovely route though!

Hmm? Says VS in my guidebook. Absolutely cracking route though.
