Does anyone know what the rock on these two routes is like at the moment- are they still unsafe? I might be wanting to take some friends [with v little climbing experience] climbing next week, but I want to avoid anything that might fall on their heads...

No more so than usual as far as I know. Because of their location there will always be loose rock on these routes.

The approach to Pygmy Ridge could be really scary for the inexperienced.

Afterthought Arete would be a much better choice.

Good suggestion. The norries are unlikely to be very dry.
