Can anyone recommend me a solicitor who gives advice on the end of employment settlement contract, Yorkshire area.
My employer has offered me three months tax free payment which seems to be low to me after 28 years.

See a specialist employment lawyer, your entitlement after so long may indeed by higher. Unfortunately I don't have contacts in your area.

When I thought I might be in need of an employment lawyer recently my accountant recommended Neil Coombes, he is in Huddersfield, google finds him easily.

I can't recommend him personally but I certainly trust the accountant

Sorry to hear it.

If it's redundancy then the minimum is set by statute:
https://www.gov.uk/redundant-your-rights/redundancy-pay

One thing to watch is the 20 year cap on statutory redundancy; they should calculate using the most recent 20 years (when you were older and hence accrue more), not the first 20 years.

You also need to examine your contract very closely. If you have a notice period, this should be in addition to any redundancy payment and PILON (pay in lieu of notice) should also include payment for any benefits or allowances you get (pension, use of car etc.).

The first £30k of any redundancy payment is tax-free; PILON is taxed as income.

You should examine the company policy on redundancy, if there is one. It can't be less than the statutory rate.

If it is a compromise agreement then you should seek an uplift on terms (unless you have done something to justify removing you).

Agree with all APART from PILON, as there as circumstances when it is tax free (as in my recent redundancy):

Indeed, although in a severance agreement (if no contractual right to PILON), he'd be well advised to ask for it to be an additional ex gratia sum and leave any mention of PILON out to avoidd any squabbles with the tax man (whose default will be to view it as taxable).

Ask them to put the proposal in writing. In my own experience employees often misunderstand.(naturally, as it is traumatic) what is being offered .

I suspect that the package may not be being explained correctly.
