As I understand there has been a big heatwave which has rendered most high and snowy things unsafe this season in the alps. I already had a dangerous time in Zermatt in early June and I understand that the heatwave just continued. Has anyone got any idea of the conditions on the Barre des Écrins as I will be in the area next week. Am I gunna die?

I do remember a similar season a few years ago when some people slid off the traverse from the Dome across under the Barre, big schrund below. Normally it is a comforting trough to walk along.

Lots of rock routes in the area, no need to go near any white stuff.

We were up it on Thursday no problem, some fresh snow had come down on the Monday but well tracked by the time we were on it later in the week.
