I expect we've already had this, but I'm just wondering - does anyone have a link to the footage with the South African commentary?!

Here's the Japanese coverage. They're a bit excited and then shocked into silence

Great to see their version - love the stewards and coppers even going mental 1:45 in to that clip. One of the greatest moments in rugby I have seen. Pretty much burst in to tears myself....well, got some dust in my eye that was very irritating.

Trying to decide whether the ITV commentary was a bit triumphalist just because it's SA (no problem with that myself &#128512 or just genuinely pleased and shocked
Great episode in sporting history, whatever

I was there. A friend, who couldn't go at the last minute, had given me his ticket!

The most exciting match I have ever watched. Another mate had said to me when I told him I was going "Oh it'll be a pretty dull match with SA probably running up in excess of 100 and Japan struggling to get out of single figures".

Right from early on in the match the Japanese played magnificently and the crowd was behind them. By half time it was becoming incredulously apparent that the Japanese might actually win. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric.

The struggle for the final try was electrifying. SA fans were stunned into silence as the stadium went mad.

What couldn't understand though were the scores of pillocks trying to pass along the seats in front of others in their bid to get to the bar queues even before the final few minutes, They missed the best part of the match!

I would love to watch the match again on TV now - any links?

Lucky bastard! I opted to get tickets for Japan v USA on the basis that that would be a closer match

People leaving before the end is one of sport's great mysteries to me.

Only ones I can find is the highlights shown on ITV Player -https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/rugby-highlights-world-cup-2015/series-1/epis...

And Radio 5Live:http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06cc6gh

Lucky bugger, must have been a great day out; it was pretty good in my kitchen. One got a feel for the crowd and atmosphere watching on TV but nothing compared to being there.

On the subject of crowds, Wembley yesterday seemed to have temporarily turned into down town Buenos Aires. Listening to the pre-match stuff on R5 it sounded mental, could hardly hear the commentator but it didn't really come across on the TV although it did seem to be a sea of blue and white. Brilliant stuff.

It's on YouTube if you do a search. At least it was yesterday. Might be censored by now.

Thanks for the links and suggestions.

You certainly see a lot more detail on TV, and a commentary certainly helps, but you miss the atmosphere of being there......

Just been talking to a South African friend. She was saying that Japan's coach is going on to coach the Springboks next year? Furthermore some of the Japanese players may take up SA residency so that they can be considered for the Springboks. Apparently Jacob Zuma has officially declared that South Africans of Chinese and Japanese origin are now officially Black and this will increase the representation of Black players in the White dominated Springboks?

Not certain if this is a wind up?
In reply to johncoxmysteriously:

I just spent 10 minutes searching but couldn't find anything. SATV not yielding anything, shame it would have been worth a listen

In reply to Trangia:

Eddie Jones is going to coach a franchise in the Super 12 club competition, the Stormers I think. Nothing to do with what happened on Saturday. He was previously (2007) specialist adviser to the Boks coach.

There is a minimum qualification period for a foreigner to play for a national side, 3 years. I am pretty sure that once a player has played for a full national side (i.e. Japan) they cannot play for another (i.e. South Africa) irrespective of their passport of convenience.

Sounds like misinformation at best.

I had assumed Scotland were the second seeded team in this group, and was wondering how on earth they were seeded above Wales. But it seems that Samoa are second 2nd seeds, Scotland third and Japan and USA are the make weights.

Pity Japan have to play again so soon - got a feeling they'll fall flat against Scotland on Wednesday

In reply to Chris the Tall:

Remember that at the time of the draw (oddly 2012) Wales and Scotland were ranked as equivalent (Pot 3) as far as this completion is concerned. Somoa were in Pot 2 with England.

The short turn around doesn't help Japan, they knew that before the start and Eddie will have a plan. The problem for Scotland is that Japan are a proper rugby playing side and on Saturday it showed. Come Weds afternoon the Kingsholm Shed (home of the Cherry and Whites) will I imagine be rocking. I expect a cracker.

Japan may hit more serious problems against Samoa as they tire and those big lumps keep bashing through the midfield; Japan look weak in that area. Fate may be cruel to Japan and they could lose out to the 2 bonus points the Boks got on Saturday despite getting royally stuffed.
In reply to Horse:

I don't know: one of the most stunning aspects of Japan's game was the discipline that they showed in the last ten minutes.

Discipline: not Samoa's strongest suit. I think they'll get channelled down the middle, neutralized and penalised. Different game, and one that Japan can control rather than chase.

Japan will get through, but probably end there. But in the next 5-10 years, the Tri-Nations could easily become the Four Nations. There's money, fervour and infrastructure in Japan. Plus money.

It's already the four nations

New Zealand
Australia
South Africa
Argentina

But four could become five . . . . And how good would that be for Rugby as a global game?
 Horse 21 Sep 2015
In reply to coinneach:

Five would be really good, has had a positve benefit in Argentina and they now have a super 12 franchise.

A proper 2nd string 6N can't be far off, weekend in Tblisi anyone? It would at least give Scotland something to win every other year.

In reply to Horse:

We could take it in turns with Italy.

At least we managed to beat them this year.

Perhaps it would make the SRU remove their heads from up their arses and actually realise ( 20 years too late ) that the game is now professional.

What, South Africa's going to be allowed in, after *that* performance?

(Sorry, been doing the rounds down here )

They have just played it on FiveLive, sandwiched between the Italian, French and Japanese commentaries. Quite a contrast although not as down beat as you might expect, but more amazing for how crazy the Italians and French went.

Looking at the fixtures Japan get a 10 day rest after the Scotland game so should be nicely refreshed for the Samoan challenge. Plenty of time to practice what you preach. Good luck to them, hope they qualify and come top of the pile.

I don't think so, but it was a great win and it couldn't have come against a nicer bunch....
