Been looking at some of the long pitches at Lambda (and other crags) on Kalymnos and the pitch length can be 50m. I presume that people don't actually carry 100m ropes these days and there is an intermediate lower off installed on these pitches ? Or do I need to take a large pile of abandoning krabs ?

There are invariably mid-height lower-off or you can get onto an adjacent route. More often than not the lengths given are generous except in the odd case when they are not!

Chris

PS Knot the end of the rope!

Cheers Chris,

I had assumed as much (but you know what assume does ) Hopefully an 80m rope should cater for most eventualities !

Last year there were a few people with 100m ropes, but generally they're not needed.

I'm sure you'll be fine on most routes with 80m ropes.

And remember, 50m cave climb might not be more than 20 to 30m above the deck.

Not that I could get up a 50m cave/roof climb... but sill.
