Has anyone climbed in Rio? Is there anything I should be aware of, I am looking at doing routes such as K2. I haven't been able to get hold of a book guide from the UK is it possible to get books locally, or is it best to hire a local guide? Coolio. J

In reply to jamie_ba:

K2 is not a bad route, if only for the novelty of climbing onto the "Jesus platform", however bolts are pretty shite and we used some trad gear on it.
Most difficult bit route finding wise is actually finding the point where it starts from.

In reply to jamie_ba: Hi, there are two guide books for Rio, one for Urca and the other Floresta da Tijuca. You can easily find them in the shop "Lenchen", in the River Gallery, between Ipanema and Copacabana. Considering the very favourable exchange rate, hiring a local guide makes the whole experience safer, more enjoyable and still economical. The lady who owns the shop can direct you, or I can send you a couple of names I've been climbing with for years. Enjoy it. Pino
