Happening just now, visible to the North from Stirling, intermittently overhead too. Fuzzy, but green and moving.

In reply to mgco3:

Faded here too, now. We had moving pillars for a little while.

Clear forecast for tonight, so I'm going to keep an eye on the sky - there seems to be a chance of more:

It's currently describing a huge, fuzzy arc across the Northern sky, like a partial glimpse of the nipple of a giant, green, space-owl.

In Inverness - just saw them from the bedroom window over a cloud inversion. Unfortunately we are not that high up so now the mist has moved in.

Oh and cheers for the tip-off. Would never have thought to look otherwise!

well I saw faint searchlight type beams moving about, gone now though. Didn't see the the nipple of a giant green space-owl. Crushing disappointment. Going to have some Talisker then try again later. What are you smoking btw?

Ooo, Talisker, there's an idea...

Mates in Finland are posting amazing pics on Facebook this evening - I'm a bit jealous as I never saw it that good from my own house while living there, always had to drive out into the country a bit.

Just been on the local news they are visible from the Merseyside coast also.

Going to walk down the beach as no lights down there and see if I can see them.

Pretty good show in West Cumbria too, first time I've seen them up here.

Hopeful of another show tonight. Last night I was stuck in the middle of Edinburgh at the girlfriends place. (Well I say stuck, she wasn't keeping me hostage!)

Just spent an hour on the Lomond Hills. Nothing. Major bummer.
OP skog 08 Oct 2015
In reply to nathan79:

It's not out of the question, but we'd be very lucky to have it as good as last night, and it's quite likely we won't see anything this far South, unfortunately.

A little after midnight looks like the best chance, if it isn't cloudy.

It's the peak of the Draconid meteor shower tonight, too, and there isn't much moonlight to drown them out.

Apparently the Draconids are usually infrequent and unimpressive, but occasionally very spectacular indeed.

In reply to Father Noel Furlong:

Exactly where I've just come back from!

Faint but there to be seen, sitting nicely under and across Ursa major.

Alas I forgot how much juice 30" exposure take out of my camera battery. 1 batter was only semi-charged and ran out after 3 shots (and an accidental video), back-up battery no.1 was out of juice (I knew that and had meant to charge it), back-up battery no.2 was back in the house fully-charged and of no use whatsoever to me at that moment! Grrrr

Gutted to miss out on last night's display but at least I've seen something andI may venture out again later.

In reply to nathan79:

Bugger. Don't I could have stayed out much longer as I was freezing and didn't have a torch.
