DVD trailers rant

Why do DVDs force you to sit through the same set of trailers every time you want to watch a film?

If I put a DVD on, I want to get to the film as fast as possible, not waste time watching clips of films I've either already got or don't care about. Some DVDs will allow you to skip straight to the menu, but others won't, as they've locked out the options until the trailers have finished. I also don't give 2 hoots about the Dolby or THX fanfares every time.

My daughter likes to watch a couple of films, but it's very tedious shipping all the rubbish until the film actually starts.

Makes you want to become a pirate, doesn't it?

Ripping the DVD does give a better user experience. Unskippable trailers on something you actually own are completely unacceptable.

isn't it a reminder to go and make a cup of tea/get a beer from the fridge ?

You could probably get quite drunk in the time it takes to get through the trailers on some of the DVDs I have seen.

I've got a couple of pornos on DVD and I've never got to the main film yet thanks to the trailers

Bit premature there.

Really pisses me off too, especially for the ones my daughter watches endlessly. And they wonder why piracy is so popular - it's because the free pirated version is superior to the paid for one!
