Which Wav. File editor

Need to edit some wav and mp3 files. Everytime I try and pick one it comes with free Malware!

Anyone recommend a free / cheap editor. Running windows 7/8.

I third Audacity. You have to download Lame for mp3 separately though, it doesn't have mp3 built in. That confused me at first, but it's great once you've worked it out.
