Been informed this morning, by someone up there, the first snow of the season (only a sprinkling) is on the Ben

Things are looking on the up

"Cold, less wet and windy conditions likely to envelop the Scottish Highlands later next week, and eventually freezing levels may drop toward 800m Cumbria and perhaps into at least north Wales."

The first snow of the season was in august...

in all seriousness i think it has snowed on the ben every month in 2015 so far, so this is by no means the first, equally its by no means the start of the season ether as it will all be gone again by sunday...

Three degrees just outside Edinburgh this morning...

The Aonachs, Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis look quite wintery this morning, with fresh overnight snow down to about 500m or so. Looks like we'll see a few freeze-thaw cycles over the next few days, which will help in the long run.

Went for a mooch up to the CIC this afternoon, here'a short video pan on Facebook if you want a look. https://www.facebook.com/Access-Mountain-1581279218797142/?ref=hl

Met a friend and his partner who had done a quick route, managing to avoid turf – which wasn't frozen. Think it's going to get pretty black tomorrow, but it'll be interesting to see what happens later in the week!

From Geoff Monk:

All mountain areas of Britain from Monday, 16 November, 2015
Further periods of rainfall (intermittently snow higher Scottish Highlands) until about Thursday. There are now signs of a major change to cold conditions which will bring freezing levels down to lower slopes even into England and Wales, and snowfall to many mountains. The longevity of the cold weather is uncertain, but most forecast models suggest it will permit through next weekend.

In reply to Murko Fuzz:

on seeing you video, anybody who was out climbing on that is clearly kidding themselves that its winter?
 Rich W Parker 15 Nov 2015
In reply to Webster:

I don't think they kidded themselves, it is what it is.

30 second edit from Ledge Route today. Snow from around 600m, from 900 there's fresh on top of an older (days) consolidated layer – so quite useful. Things coming along nicely.

Why anyone would hit the dislike button on your post, is completely beyond me?

Maybe the person in question could tell us?

Total wade-a-thon in places today, so a warming tomorrow will be handy for settling things down a bit.
