Even if you don't climb in Pembroke, this has a serious message: wear helmets -

You need to add a date - at the time this happened, not wearing a helmet wasn't really frowned upon.

And mobile phones weren't widespread and social media didn't exist....

In reply to Ian Parsons:

Indeed. The first time I climbed at Mewsford was in the days of 45 metre ropes. We dangled a spare rope 10 metres or so down the cliff to a ledge, descended to the ledge and put a screwgate into a loop on the spare rope. We then abseiled from the screwgate on our climbing ropes and pulled them.

At least we had the sense to tell some other climbers what we were going to do beforehand.

I thought it sounded familiar, I climbed with Luke in a hailstorm in Trowbarrow a good while after the accident, we had to abandon off the main wall and abb to retrieve gear......

8th of November 1988, seem to remember that day for some reason.

Was an interesting read from a different perspective, cheers Dave.

We had let folk know we were intending to climb at Huntsmans Leap, however soon realised we had cadged a lift to the wrong car park. Mewsford Point was far nearer as we set off wandering back, but as pre mobile had no way to update people as to our change of plan. What could possibly go wrong
