In 2012, Sandy Allan and Rick Allen, both in their late fifties, reached the summit of Nanga Parbat having achieved the first complete ascent of the Mazeno ridge.The ridge is ten kilometres long with a number of peaks over 7000 metres and this ascent, which won the pair the Piolet D'Or, is considered one of the most important in the Himalayas in recent years. However, the summit was only the start of their troubles: without food and water, the descent in heavy snow conditions pushed them to the very limits of survival.
Organised by the North East Mountain Trust, Sandy Allan will present an illustrated lecture on this extraordinary adventure in Aberdeen on 9th December.
