'Meanwhile Gardens' by Levitation. Original proper version finally released last month.

Who would have thought a half-finished album by some early 90's also-rans could be so good? Probably the best thing I've heard this year (although I haven't listened to much new stuff at all, so not difficult).

I do like King Creosote - will have to catch up with some of his more recent stuff.

Now that sounds like a plan as long as you don't allow it to affect your work schedule dude . .

Jon Hopkins has done some interesting stuff, not heard that one though.

I've been listening to Alisha's Attic's The House That We Buiilt. Perfectly polished pop songs about sex, love and relationships. Not my usual cup of tea but I think it's rather good.

Hm didn't know they'd made a record together. I'm listening to -
Mercury Rev - The Light In You
Low - Ones and Sixes, The Great Destroyer
Nathan Fake - Hard Islands
Holden - The Inheritors
Ones and Sixes and The Inheritors are my faves out of that lot.

Saw Low in Glasgow - intending to get some of their stuff. Went with some mates but didn't know the group's music aside from the one song radio 6 kept playing. Impressed.

Not listening to yet, but eagerly awaiting the arrivals of the hottest new tunes on some 7" slabs of vinyl.

"What are these new tunes?" I hear you ask. A small selection of classic soul:

The Miracles - The Tracks Of My Tears
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - The Tears Of A Clown
Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)

This purchase is very significant for me. For the past twenty five years I have been collecting 12" vinyl and have amassed a huge collection of 70's, 80's and 90's house, techno, electro, disco, soul and other related dance music. I now have a large list of records that I want that were released before 12" singles were pressed and this purchase marks the 'opening of the floodgates'.

I have a 7 inch single with those two songs on it. I bought it randomly somewhere in the late 70's, possibly Woollies.
In reply to Flinticus:

Alt J - An awesome wave
First Aid kit - The lions roar and Stay Gold

Was a big fan of Selected Ambient Works and other stuff 'back in the day'.

Not listened to his new release. Would it be the same without the 'context'??

Just after 6am it was "Rudolf the red nose reindeer" This was 6 miles into a run after two bottles of wine and 2 silk cut the night before. As the rain lashed down, in darkness along the beach, with a cold brook running by ma boz!

Not very Christmasey.

Not sure about the fags (I was never a silk cut man, they were the fags my parents smoked) but running in the rain along the dark beach sounds good. Shame my knees can't take it and I'm nowhere near a beach...

"Surfing..." is an old one that I've only picked up recently, so yeah, I'd say that it works on its own merits.

I quite like some of his more recent stuff, but although it's technically much more sophisticated and often musically pretty hot it doesn't have quite the same sort of welcome-to-the-future optimism to it as the classic nineties bits.
In reply to Flinticus:

Stone Temple Pilots - Core , after reading the sad news that Scott Weiland passed away yesterday
 mp3ferret 04 Dec 2015

Slayer - Repentless.

Been back listening to some 'Men Without Hats' also their more recent stuff - Love in the age of War.

Tried some Christmas songs to cheer me up - but its not working, so will stick to delving back into the 80s

Wife's. I don't smoke unless I've drunk enough alcohol that makes it seem appealing. Not surprisingly this can happen quite regularly.
Aphex twin is a blast from the past but unless I smoke something stronger than silk cut they CDs stay in the drawer.
