Hello
I'm looking to get my partner a guide book for christmas, as we've just moved, were north east of carlisle, just south of the Scotish border north of Brampton. about an hour from Hexham. He's an experiences trad and bouldering climber and has all the guide books he wants for the lakes and eden vally, but I wondered if anyone could recomend a guide for the borders?
Any advice greatfully received

Northumberland Climbing Guide: The Definitive Guide to Climbing in Northumberland Paperback – 1 Nov 2004

is there anything more recent or would this be a good buy?

Amy

That's the most recent Northumberland trad climbing guidebook, it's pretty good. There's also a bouldering guidebook which accompanies it:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Northumberland-Bouldering-Guide-John-Earl/dp/095046...
For the Scottish borders your best bet will be the Lowland Outcrops guide produced by the SMC:

This one might also do the trick (not sure how far south these areas are in Scotland and don't own the book):

I'm sure that someone will be along and recommend a good bouldering guide for southern Scotland, I've never had need for one though so can't help on that front.

That's brilliant, thank you

I climb in Northumberland and use that book. It's great. Any rockfax book would also go down well I suspect!
