Amidst all the misery of the recent floods, here is a positive story for once...

Nearly all of the herd of 41 cows feared lost have been found, one on a golf course 18 miles away!

Cheers

Maybe they took a bus there....

Perhaps they planned the whole thing as an elaborate escape attempt?

How could cows cause it to rain on purpose , you ask? Simple. They all lie down at once.

Maybe they used a mooterboat.
In reply to DerwentDiluted:

They didn't need blankets to keep warm as they were Jersey's.......

They are ruminating on their ordeal apparently.

They were seeking pastures new

In reply to Dave the Rave:

yes, it must have been udderly awful for them...

A pity that about 6 of the replies here are just silly jokes. What's amazing is how those cows just manage to swim - they float and paddle a bit and, if they're lucky, can just keep their heads above water.

Anyhow, it's quite grim news tonight, with very heavy rain over the last few hours, and the river at Glenridding has broken its banks again ... apparently almost worse now than the first time:

They actually swim quite well.

When is a joke not silly Gordon? Isn't that the point? And anyway, I thought they were quite good.

On THE serious note: 1)how much are these exceptional events a result of man-made climate change and 2) why is there not more critical analysis of Monbiot's explanations. How much is the NFU and the MinAg or whatever it's called nowadays complicit in activity that means such devastation is pretty much inevitable?

I've only ever seen Longhorns swimming in cowboy films

I sometimes wonder if Gordon remembers the exact moment life kicked him in the tits...

Anyway, I'm not one to milk a story just to get cheap laughs. I'm sure you're all herd my cow puns before.

Non-opposable thumbs make holding a golf club difficult.

I think crofters used to swim cattle between islands in the Inner Hebrides. I'm not sure if Friesians cud manage though.

Thanks for reminding me, I'd completely forgotten that I saw a film on TV in the last 5 years about swimming cattle over to Staffin island on Skye

At one stage, they were swimming over 10000 cows across the Menai Straits a year.

They have non-opposable thumbs? It's genetic engineering gone mad!
