... Is here!

I'm so excited it's not normal.

I'm rooting for Kellie and Kevin, but that's mainly because he's from my home town (That even got a mention last week haha). I also think Jay has done a remarkable job to get here, he is my second choice.

Who do you think will win? And who do you want to win?
Kellie and Kevin
Katie and Anton
Georgia and Giovanni
Jay and Aliona

Calm down, Blade!

Glad someone's looking forward to it. I'd rather eat my own shit. Or yours for that matter.

PM me your address mate. No charge but a few coppers in the next MRT box you see guarantees great karma.

and why is this in the Culture forum?!?!?

Isn't dancing culture?

In reply to Tony the Blade:

Either Jay or Georgia for me. Jay's jive was the best dance I've ever seen on Strictly. Georgia has been consistently brilliant.

The standard this year has been incredible.

In other news, I've fallen back in love with Alyona, and Gleb has turned me a bit gay.

Can't believe I'm commenting on this, but seeing as I've been made to sit through it...

Kellie and Kevin to win - consistently good and some fantastic dances.
Jay and Aliona - would like a bloke to win.
Katie and Anton - he's funny and deserves to have got this far, having been saddled with a couple of lemons in the past.
.
.
.
Georgia and Giovanni - went right off her after she didn't say a word of commiseration to Helen when she survived the dance off.

All that kind stuff is on the TV in the front room frequented by the strange female creatures that are my wife and daughters( and occasionally my sister)

My room, and TV have had no such contamination.

Pretty much the only programme we all love to watch together is The Big Bang Theory.

Lucky you. Unfortunately im watching the kids tonight. Thankfully we're watching The Hobbit. Pretty poor and seen it before but no way as bad as Strictly. I've never ever understood why i want to watch people who are on the TV doing something which involves them being on TV even more....anything which starts "Celebrity.." should be avoided at all costs.

God Ellie Goulding is dire.

Wasn't she just terrible, and a terrible song.

Well, I didn't see that result coming. Jay looked quite embarrassed when he was announced as the winner, rabbit in headlights.

He was odds on favourite. I think at his best, he's been the best dancer ever. So fluid, unselfconscious and really cool.

Any of them could've won.

In reply to Tony the Blade:

I'm thinking he had a massive vote from girl fans, whereas the other two ladies split the vote for actual "best dancer", so they both lost out.

Agree completely. He's the one I go back to rewatch.

I loved Kellie's dances but you could see how hard she was trying. She threw herself at it. Jay managed to look the most natural and effortless.

In reply to Alyson:

I've watched his jive on YouTube about 6 times, and we've just re-watched the show dance.

Alyona has the most beautiful calves ever.

Where do you stand on Gleb?

Oh Gleb's delicious, no doubt about it. I can see why you'd go gay for him.
In reply to Tony the Blade:

Random facts alert. Jay grew up in Farndon, near Newark which is a few miles away from where I live. He attended the Charlotte Hamilton school of dance which is about 100 metres from my home. All three of my daughters attended the same school.

Local news for local people.

ok I know nothing about this.......but are you saying that the amateur celebrity was already a trained dancer? Isn't that cheating?

In reply to Babika:

I believe that the only person to make the final who had never done some dancing as part of a stage-school programme was Katie whatserface from Radio 3.

Can't temember where I heard that from though; I'm not really that interested.

Hmm, have to confess that whilst it's a dance school, it's mainly a local mixed school for local folks. My daughters did cheerleading for years and the reason I pulled them was because they often came last in competitions due to the lack of ambition at the top. They now do athletics.

It's a local school for local folks. This makes his achievements even better.

I would imagine that a lot of the actors/singers who take part have had a far more classic and rounded performance training than Jay.

I must be so naïve. I thought the idea was that they teamed up celebs with two left feet with a proper dancer and gave them a crash course in 10 weeks or whatever. A bit like Splash or the Jump Off or whatever its called.
What the hell is the point if the worst have been to a dance school and the best have had "classic and rounded performance training"?

Its gone down even further in my esteem as a programme concept. More than a little disingenuous

I think its a mixed bag. Its obvious that the likes of Ainslie, Carol and Vine were total novices but a quick Google of Helen George reveals that she is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in musical theatre. Im no expert but I suspect this involves some element of dance.

In reply to Babika:
It's light and shade. To make it watchable you'd need a few people who can put on a decent dance after a bit in the mix. Otherwise it would be turgid. Imagine the show with 15 Anne Widdecombe, July Murray and Jeremys on it. You would never watch beyond week 2.

Yes, a small number of the celebs haven't had any dance training and get a good distance, e.g. Anita, but remember it's a light entertainment show. those who have had some training might have had 20 hours a week or like my son 30 minutes a week. He is not a celeb and is not a great dancer, even though he's been to dancing school... All of these people go back to a day career of some sort afterwards. Which means that while they would like to win, or won't make our break their future.

It's helpfully untainted by prize money. The glitterball trophy looks like it might cost all of £20.
