Who actually remembers watching Morcambe and Wise when they were alive?

And why are they still on telly over Christmas?

In reply to The Lemming:

Unfortunately I had to watch them as a kid back in the days of one telly in the house and only three channels. I'll say this for them though, they've stood the test of time. They were bloody boring back then and the repeats are still bloody boring to watch now.

Yes, because they were genuinely funny and everything since has been a bit lame?

Safely banal and unthreatening. However, they have a reputation for being funny even if they're not, so no-one's going to get sacked for putting them on.

Andy, I think someone's hacked your account! that post was succinct and completely clear....

And also completely correct. Like Michael mcintyre for the 1970s

I remember their disastrous switch to ITV when everyone was saying they had lost it. All I remember thinking was, well they were no Benny Hill or Dick Emery...

There were some half-way decent comedians about in the 1970s. Dave Allan for one:

I remember my parents liking them and as a kid I had to watch what they watched (one telly, 4 channels, no ipod, internet or computer). I think my parent's generation (Veterans) liked bland, not too offensive, comedy and these guys were good at that.

I think there are still a lot of my parents generation (my parents included) still alive and they are the ones most likely to still be watching mainstream TV.
