How about Headlong Flight or Malignant Narcissism or (a bit older) Red Lenses?

Just like to chip in:

Down In The Tube Station At Midnight - The Jam (great lyrics too).

If You Want To Stay / Naked In The Rain / Funky Monks / Falling Into Grace (I could go on ...) - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Oh ... and how could anyone not have mentioned Big Bottom?

> The White Stripes - 7 Nation Army

I know it sounds like it but thats a guitar not a bass. There was just Jack on guitar and Meg on drums in the White Stripes. Jack did have several effects pedals however to produce all the differant sounds. And I saw them live a few times so know this to be true.

Almost too many great bass intros to single one out but I'm going with 'Justice's Groove' from Stanley Clarke's East River Drive album.
Also love the bass in the intro to Dream Theater's 'trial of tears' from falling into Infinity.
