In reply to Mike Hewitt:

Welcome to God's county.

You have almost everything available. Flat riding out on the Solway. All the mountain passes and some more rolling rides around the lakes. Go out and explore.

From cock a nice hour is out on the lorton road and back via thackthwaite and rogerscales.

Couple of hours, over Newlands and whinlatter

3ish, back of bass, Derwent then honister.

Loads more to go at.

Honister92 and trilakeland are pretty active local clubs

The only drawback is being on the west coast, you often ride out with a tailwind and back into a headwind

The trees in the Workington / Lillyhall area bear testament to that -- many are at an angle of 45 degrees!
