Mine would be . . . .

The Blues Brothers
Slade In Flame
Quadrophenia

Over tae youz . . . . . Nae Disney.

Hmmm...it's going to be scraping the barrel getting three. OK, we've got TheWickerman. Then I suppose there's Bugsey Malone... and ... er ... that Buffy episode where they sing.

Tommy was pretty amazing. An extraordinary period piece.

"West Side Story" - game changer. Leonard Bernstein applies operatic techniques to musical theatre and film.
.
"An American in Paris". Gene Kelly at the height of his powers. Revolutionised the portrayal of dance on film. Fabulous Gershwin score.

"The Bandwagon". Another emphatic statement of the new approach. Kelly unavailable so Fred Astaire steps in and shows the post-war crowd he can still cut it in his fifties. Cyd Charisse devastating.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Dancer In The Dark

Don't think I like any other musicals.

So was McVicar although I appreciate it wasn't a musical. The soundtrack was pretty damned good.

My favourite 3 are.

The Blues Brothers
Sound of music
Fiddler on the roof!

I only have a top one.

" I do believe Marcellus my husband, your boss, told you to take me out and do whatever I wanted. Now, I want to dance, I want to win and I want that trophy, so dance good."

Cue one of the best dance scenes ever, to the music of one of rock's best exponents.

In reply to Andy Long:

I can never decide which is better;
the green dress routine in Singin' in the Rain or the red dress routine in Band Wagon. Either way, she's the tops.

For get up and go you can't really beat America from West Side Story. Witty lyrics, too.

And I can't not mention Kiss Me Kate. Lovely songs, humour, glamorous women and 3D to boot.

Now it got an award for best comedy/musical movie should The Martian not be on the list

Spinal Tap
Eat the Rich
Blues Brothers

or, more seriously, Rigoletto in Mantova, fantastic Opera production where they perform Rigoletto in settings all over Mantova (the music was recorded in the opera house).

As an addendum to my original post. I linked the TV to my hi-fi for the showing and he nearly shat himself when the first chord went off.

His critique ?

"Well it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be"

I'm not really a big fan of musical films, I love a good soundtrack though.

A good one that has not been mentioned yet is Phantom of the Paradise.

Directed by Brian De Palma it is a rock opera reworking of Phantom of the Opera crossed with Faust and The Picture of Dorian Gray. I've not watched it for over twenty years but I remember the music being better than the film.

Only two for me (both from the same team):
South Park the movie.
Team America, world police.

Often catch myself singing tunes from each in the car.
