I've not seen the film, but Oblivion has a great theme song. M83 featuring Susanne Sundfor. I only found the track after coming across Susanne via Royksopp. I might even try the film - even though it has Tom Cruise in it.

Those early Tarantino soundtracks are hard to beat, but Out of Sight was another good one. The Big Lebowski works very well too, this scene is pretty unforgettable:

Third shout for Southern Comfort.
Almost anything from EARLY Peter Weir or Terrence Mallick
True Grit (2010)
And Terence Davies's Distant Voices, Still Lives / The Long Day Closes which incorporate contemporary music into the body of the film so seamlessly that you don't know it's happening.

Possibly agree that it's not a fantastic film but there's something mesmerising about Saoirse ronan's acting.

Fight Club - just for the closing scene when 'Where is my Mind' by the Pixies plays as the buildings collapse.

At times I like listening to Fame as a soundtrack(but not too often-about once per year)
2001?

Forrest Gump has a crackin soundtrack.
In reply to The Lemming:
Not in a 'I need to buy this on cd' way. But by far my favourite soundtrack is from Requiem for a dream.

It's subtlety moving to slow building repetition and then huge crescendos. It's a character in its own right. It makes the film.

As far as buy the cd I enjoyed - garden state.

"Iguazu" played by Gustavo Santaolalla.

Haunting soundtrack used in the film "Babel". It really goes well with images of the Moroccan landscapes.

Surely the film soundtrack that launched the genre is The Graduate.

.........a nation turns it's lonely eyes to you....
 Tom Valentine 21 Jan 2016
In reply to Simon Caldwell:

Good to see someone else acknowledging Terence Davies's talents.

"See the pyramids along the Nile....." it's all so natural; the music is as much a part of the film's fabric as the visual image.
